WELCOME

The Muskegon County Emergency Communication Services, Inc.  (M.C.E.C.S.) group is comprised of licensed amateur (Ham) radio operators who have expressed an interest in providing emergency communication service primarily to the public safety agencies.

As training toward the real thing we provide communication support to nonprofit organizations in activities such as walkathons, bicycle races, and other charitable actives such as March of Dimes.

One of the primary missions of amateur radio is providing public safety communication support in time of disasters. Amateurs have been responsible for saving countless lives in times of disaster when traditional means of communications may be overloaded or nonfunctional.

With the advent of Homeland Security directives, the need for Amateur Radio Emergency Communications and public service support is greater than ever. While our group primarily is tasked with service to Muskegon County, Michigan, we coordinate with other Michigan Counties, the State of Michigan, and ultimately Federal Agencies. The prerequisite to join is simple, hold a valid FCC Amateur Radio license and have the desire to help the public in time of need. Most training is provided free of charge. A basic 2 meter radio is all you need to get started.
